SURFACE PREPARATION
Aluminum: Unpainted aluminum must be free of oil, grease, rust, mildew and foreign matter. Clean well with solvent such as xylene, lacquer thinner, MEK, acetone or similar product. NOTE: Unpainted aluminum must be sealed with a two component wash primer which should be applied by spray for best results. We recommend using Sherwin Williams' Wash Primer P60 G2 (1 part) with Catalyst Reducer R7 K44 (1 ½ parts). Stir wash primer thoroughly before mixing with catalyst reducer. After applying wash primer, you must apply D.G.K. within 4 hours. If you exceed 4 hours, you must reapply wash primer. Painted aluminum must be free of oil, grease, rust, mildew and foreign matter and completely dry before application. Aluminum newly painted with Alkyd (oil base) coatings must dry for 10 days to fully cure before applying D.G.K. NOTE: Any areas that are flaking or peeling must be removed and sealed with primer (as above) before applying D.G.K. Concrete: If you use muriatic acid, follow the manufacturer's directions as to the proper way to neutralize the solution, then wash and rinse thoroughly. Concrete newly painted with alkyd (oil base) coatings must dry for 10 days to fully cure before applying D.G.K. If concrete is very porous, we recommend applying 1-2 coats of PU 301 Sealer. If surface is very smooth, sand until matte finish is obtained, we recommend applying 1-2 coats of PU 301 Sealer. New concrete must cure before application of sealer. Fiberglass: Unpainted fiberglass must be degreased and cleaned thoroughly, removing all foreign matter. If fiberglass is very smooth, sand until matte finish is obtained, remove dust particles and dry completely before applying D.G.K. No primer is needed on fiberglass. Fiberglass previously painted with an epoxy or polyurethane coating that is in good condition, clean thoroughly. Lightly sand until matte finish is obtained, remove dust particles and dry completely before applying D.G.K. In the unlikely event that an alkyd (oil base) or latex (water base) type coating has been applied to the fiberglass, these coatings must be removed, to ensure proper adhesion of D.G.K. to the fiberglass. No primer is needed. Metal: Unpainted metal must be free of oil, grease, rust, mildew and foreign matter. Immediately apply 1-2 coats of a rust-proof primer, brand of your choice. If rust-proof primer is latex (water-base) allow to dry according to manufacturer's directions, and then apply D.G.K. If rust-proof primer is alkyd (oil base), allow to dry for 10 days to fully cure before applying D.G.K. Painted metal must be free of oil, grease, rust, peeling paint, mildew and foreign matter and completely dry before application. Metal newly painted with alkyd (oil base) coatings must dry for 10 days to fully cure before applying D.G.K. NOTE: Any areas that are flaking or peeling must be removed and sealed with primer (as above) before applying D.G.K. Polyethylene: Must be fire-oxidized (propane gas) before applying D.G.K. Wood: Must be free of oil, grease, mildew, peeling paint, foreign matter and completely dry before application. We recommend sealing new wood with 1-3 coats of PU 301 Sealer, before applying D.G.K. Treated wood requires PU 301 Sealer. Ceramic Tile, Marble, Terrazzo, Porcelain & Glass: Must be completely free of oil, grease, rust, paint, mildew and all foreign matter. Wash with hard brush and rinse well. If muriatic acid is used, be sure to read the manufacturer's direction as to the proper way to neutralize the solution, then wash and rinse the surface thoroughly. After drying, we recommend cleaning entire area with a non-oil base solvent such as Acetone. NOTE: D.G.K. can only be applied to above surfaces when primed with SMALTO GRlP Polyurethane Primer. Apply SMALTO GRIP with a natural bristle brush, do not use sponge brush. If using 1 coat of SMALTO GRIP, make sure every area is covered. Additional coats are no problem in case of a build up on any area. When SMALTO GRlP is used to seal the grout between tiles, we recommend applying 2 additional coats directly on grout. Do not exceed 5 hours between application of additional coats of SMALTO GRIP. Let SMALTO GRlP dry 12-24 hours before application of D.G.K.
